On 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 May 2016 will be held in the city of Florianopolis (Brazil), the II Latin American Congress of Integrated Management of Coastal Areas: Governance for Ecosystem Services Coasts and Oceans (GIAL 2016), organized by the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) and the Latin American Network of Integrated Coastal Management (IBERMAR), in collaboration with the Federal University of Rio Grande (FURG), the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRG) and the University of Cádiz (UCA).
The realization of the event is of great importance for the joint construction of knowledge on the coast, the sea and its management. We believe that, beyond the training activity defining events of this nature, they help to establish and strengthen contact points in the Latin American region, and represent platforms for the exchange of knowledge and experience between authorities / managers / academic institutions / research centers and social movements, with high potential actions applicable to planning and management of coastal and marine area.
Thus, the GIAL 2016 is meant as a platform for the dissemination, discussion, knowledge sharing, education and training, to contribute to the implementation of global and regional commitments made by Latin American countries, related to integrated and sustainable management spaces and coastal and marine resources of this region, with a view to human welfare.
